Our wavefront sensor systems include:
FrontSurfer stand-alone software for Windows. The program reconstructs the wavefront from a spot pattern obtained with hexagonal, orthogonal or random Hartmann (-Shack) mask with arbitrary number of subapertures. The software supports standard video interfaces on Windows. In “Alignment” mode the software is capable of real-time dynamic display of low-order aberrations in polar coordinates or bar-graph format. In the feedback mode, the program couples with OKO deformable mirror and can be used for low-cost real-time adaptive optics.
Flexible Optical produces high-quality replicated microlens arrays specially for the use with FrontSurfer wavefront sensors. As a standard option, we offer a hexagonal array of 127 microlenses with a focal distance of 18 mm and a pitch of 300 µm, mounted in a C-mount.
Besides, Flexible Optical offers a range of microlens arrays fabricated in glass and fused silica with small numerical aperture and 99% optical fill factor. Microstructures provide for optimum spectral efficiency (UV to far infrared) and for the best mechanical and thermal stability.
Characteristics of three typical configurations of FrontSurfer wavefront sensor are given in the table below. However, the system can be reconfigured according to the customer’s requirements by choosing a different camera, Hartmann mask or microlens array.

Flexible Optical offers calibrated Hartmann masks with square and circular apertures with orthogonal and hexagonal geometries. Masks are fabricated in glass and coated with patterned aluminum. Since the holes are positioned with very high precision and aberration of the mask is negligible, these masks can be used for absolute wavefront sensing, without calibration on a reference light beam.

Click to download the latest Windows demo of The FrontSurfer. With this limited version of The FrontSurfer you can process previously saved hartmanograms with a maximum size of 320x240 pixels and maximum 19 spots. You can configure interfaces for the wavefront sensor (video capture) and deformable mirror, either using embedded options or loading a custom plugin; however both the video capture and the deformable mirror interface are disabled. This version also contains real-time simulations of the “alignment” mode and the closed-loop operation with a deformable mirror.
